June’s Theme: Relax and Renew

Our theme for June is “Relax and Renew”


In an age of speed, I began to think nothing could be more exhilarating than going slow. In an age of distraction, nothing can feel more luxurious than paying attention. And in an age of constant movement, nothing is more urgent than sitting still.

The summer may keep us busy with fun activities, however, we also have to practice slowness. Through the practices such as we offer at Meditate Madison, i.e. meditation, yoga, sound healing, spirituality and other wellness practices, you can learn to slow down, relax and renew, clear your mind, and not be so stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed. In all, these practices bring a deep relaxation to your mind, body and spirit.

Amazingly, I learned from my Subtle Yoga instructor, Kristine Kaoverii Weber, the key to weight loss is not about tons of exercise. Studies have shown as this only contributes about 10-30% of our weight loss. Not that exercise is not good for our heart because it is of course. Instead, the key to weight loss is reducing our stress. Kristine speaks frequently about neuroscience and the connection and importance of slow yoga practices for our parasympathetic nervous system. Stress and anxiety are the root causes of why we overeat, choose unhealthy foods, and the inability to lose weight. Join our Peaceful Weight Loss & Wellness Groups to learn more.

Attend one of the varied classes and/or programs this month as we explore this focus of resting, relaxing and renewing ourselves.

Our schedule will be a little light for June as I will be away at a meditation/yoga retreat with my daughter, Allison, who lives in Denver. We are heading to the Shambhala Mountain Center and are quite thrilled to do so! She’s been there before as part of her education for her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Art Therapy from Naropa University, a Buddhist contemplative university in Boulder. I look forward to a weekend that is called Rest and Renew!

My other trip will be escorting my youngest to a memorial and scattering of ashes for her biological father.

Below you will find our classes, workshops and other events for this month as well as the personal sessions available to you with Deb Phelps and Dineen Carta. Personal sessions are the way you can have meditation, yoga, healing, or coaching on your own schedule. We still have open appointments, so be sure to schedule your initial appointment today by calling 608-216-2805.


Be sure to check the online calendar in case of schedule changes. Please note that there is a 2-hour registration requirement for classes. Workshops and other events may vary.

Peaceful Weight Loss & Wellness Groups
Fridays at 10 am
As of 6/3’s meeting every Monday at 6:30 pm
starting 6/17

These groups get together to meet, share, support, and practice movement and meditation.
We incorporate the following: 
de-stressing with relaxation techniques, inviting in meditation and mindfulness, exploring our thoughts and emotions, learning to mindfully eat, practicing gentle yoga (chair yoga too), taking walks together, and enjoying other wellness activities as decided by members of the group.

Healing Meditations for Stress Reduction
Guided Meditations have long been known to be extremely powerful techniques for stress reduction and relieving anxiety which in turn rejuvenates and heals the body. You can lie down on a mat or sit in a chair.

Restorative Yoga – Rest & Renew with Energy Healing
Breathe easily and deeply as you relax into a few therapeutic fully-supported longer-held yoga poses, mostly supine on the floor, using lots of props, (blankets, bolsters, blocks and pillows) to maximize ease and rest. This yoga style was created for those recovering from injury or surgery, PTSD, emotional traumas like grief, stress and anxiety, for example, or for those seeking a quiet meditative practice.  Dineen will provide Energy Healing during the session.

Sound Bath Meditation
The beautifully, deep vibrations and tones of the crystal singing bowls will take you to a world of calm and peace. The sounds and vibrations relieve stress and bring on deep relaxation.
You can lie down or sit.
Tuesday, June 18th at 7 pm

Conscious Relaxation
Would you like to ease insomnia? Decrease anxiety? Alleviate stress? Even lower symptoms of pain?
This session will help you with this and more. It is similar to a guided meditation but it induces full-body relaxation and a deep state of consciousness. Also called Yoga Nidra. It is practiced lying down but you can sit if you need to do so.

Guided Meditation for Calming the Mind
Inner Peace – that one thing that we long to find but it often seems so very elusive. Meditation is one of those beautiful tools that is designed to help you quiet mind chatter, focus inward, and explore the limitless realm of your heart and soul.  Note some weekends I will be away and class will not take place.

Mindful Chair Yoga – Subtle & Gentle
The class is extremely gentle and is accessible to those with physical limitations or structural concerns, or those who need to ease their way into a movement practice. The focus will be on subtle movements, improving brain function and eliciting the relaxation response, Check for schedule changes.

Interested in a Spiritual Awareness Group?
Are you–spiritual but not religious?—on a dedicated path or a new seeker looking for your spiritual path? People on a spiritual path lead more healing, enriching, enlightening, peace-filled lives. When we can accept one another for our varied beliefs, we can realize that there is a universal curriculum or path we all share in Universal Love. Let’s learn from one another and share in the spirit of giving.

A Course in Miracles Study Group
This ongoing group meets to share in the study of the spiritual book A Course in Miracles. The emphasis is on the way to universal love and peace is undoing guilt by forgiving others. See this link for more information. Thomas will facilitate the weekends Paul and I are unavailable.
