The class is extremely gentle and is accessible to those with physical limitations or structural concerns, or those who need to ease their way into a movement practice. The focus will be on subtle movements, improving brain function and eliciting the relaxation response,
Mindful Chair Yoga makes yoga accessible to all. Those of you with disabilities, weight challenges, inflexibility, or who just cannot get on the floor for whatever reason can benefit from a daily practice of yoga on a chair in the comfort of your home or office. The chair replaces the yoga mat and becomes an extension of your body allowing you to take full advantage of yoga’s amazing fitness and health potential. You can receive the many benefits of chair yoga–the integration of body, mind, and spirit.
This 60-minute class involves gentle chair-based stretches done with mindfulness meditation. It is a time to cultivate a space for inner and outer harmony, and peace.
I am a proponent of “Yoga for All.” That is Yoga for people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. As a yoga teacher, I want to make my individual and group classes a wonderful experience for every student that walks through my door. The last thing I want to do is to make a student feel frustrated, singled out, or ashamed on their yoga mat. I am a body positive teacher. Most of us, including myself, have non-traditional yoga bodies and we can be overwhelmed by a culture that fails to celebrate diversity or even offer a safe and sacred place for compassionate self-exploration. I want to shift the consciousness and share the message that everybody is beautiful, capable and deserving of a happy, healthy life. I have had additional trainings both as a “Yoga for All” Teacher as well as Chair Yoga Teacher.
